Skincare: Necessity or Luxury?

One of the things I hear often is that people think that partaking in skincare is part of a relaxation ritual more than a regular routine.

However, skincare is a necessity for good health.

Why?

First, it prevents unwanted skin conditions.

Skin conditions like acne, wrinkles, hyperpigmentation or any other sensitizations that happen to your skin, often happen due to an unbalanced skin microbiome.

Lots of things contribute to an unbalanced skin microbiome.

A few that contribute heavily are not taking care of your skin properly, using products that are not right or too harsh for you and not wearing sunscreen.

For example, not wearing sunscreen actually inhibits the diversity of microflora in your skin, which causes an imbalance and throw the functions of your skin off.

And using skincare products that are not right or too harsh or not of good quality will actually break down your barrier.

While using a good quality skincare routine that's right for you, will aid in good skin health and prevent any unwanted skincare conditions from happening to your skin.

Taking care of your skin helps to protect your overall health.

Your skin's barrier is a very thin layer of skin on the outer surface of your entire body.

It protects you from severe external threats, and helps to keep your body in a regular state of homeostasis.

So when your skin is being protected properly and is in good condition; it's not going to look better, it's going to help protect your health.

Of course skincare does also make your skin look more youthful.

As we age our cell turnover slows and causes our skin to look dull and less radiant.

Excellent skincare removes dead skin cells and replaces them with newer, more youthful looking cells to help you to look more youthful overall.

It also provides the moisture and nutrients your skin needs to function properly.

Whether you have dry, oily, combination or sensitized skin, we all need some essential basics in our skincare routine.

Additionally, skincare helps boost self-confidence.

When your skin looks better, you feel better and have more self-confidence, which then trickles down into every other thing you do.

For example, if you own a business or you are working somewhere or your's the head of the PTA (whatever you're doing!), you probably have a lot of face time with other people.

Skin conditions are known to cause severe mental angst.

You don't want to be thinking about a skin condition or how you look while you're trying to achieve your goals.

Having healthy skin helps you project great self-confidence out into the world and into all of the things that you're doing.

Regular use of quality skincare can prevent so much from happening!

Not only is it way easier, it's less costly to prevent skin problems than trying to fix them in the future.

One of the things that is so often misconstrued is the idea of anti-aging.

In my experience, people don't usually think about anti-aging until they've already aged.

However, anti-aging is not reverse aging. It's preventative in nature.

Anti-aging is about taking measures that aid in preventing or slowing further aging.

Now that doesn't mean that if you've never done any anti-aging, you can't start today

You can. And you will benefit from it.

Taking this step will help you to slow the aging process.

However, when you're using anti-aging products much earlier on in life, you're going to have better prevention in general overall.

Another thing that is heavily misunderstood is that there's one magic project product for everything.

People want to do one thing.

They don't want to have this big, intense skincare routine.

And while I'm definitely not advocating for a 12 step routine - although I'm going to be honest, you guys, I use a lot of skincare products - there are some basics that you really do need to put into place in order to get the best results from your skincare routine.

There isn't one magic product that's going to do everything for you.

While healthy, balanced skin doesn't come from just one product, a five minute skincare routine a day is only 0.003% of your entire day.

And makes a major difference in the way that your skin acts reacts, maintains itself and helps to protect itself.

So, if you're looking for something for nothing, doing a five minute skincare routine is essentially doing nothing, but paying off big time.
