Welcome to Brows on Main!

When I thought about creating a blog, the first question I asked myself was “What am I going to write about?”

If you’ve ever tried to write anything, you know that’s usually the hardest part.  It’s not easy to figure out what you’re going to write about.  Especially when you’re like me.

I find that people pretty much fall into two camps.  One is the “I don’t know what talents I have, so I’m not sure what I can do” camp.  The other is “Camp I have SO many talents, I don’t know what to do with them.”

I’d say there is a 3rd camp… the “I know what my talents are and I know how to use those talents.”, but I can’t imagine many people fall into that one.  We’ll keep it there just in case for any of you mythical creatures out there and call it the “Camp for Magical Unicorns”

Although on the surface, you might think that one of the first two camps is better than the other that’s not the case.  It’s not good to be on either side of this uncertainty.

On the one hand, you have someone who obviously has talents (because we all do!), but is not aware of what they are.  They are hindered from making a move because they haven’t figured themselves out yet.

On the other hand, you have someone who has talents and IS aware of what those talents are… but guess what? They are hindered from making a move because they haven’t figured themselves out yet.

And this has been the conundrum that has plagued my life… especially my writing life… for quite some time now.

I wallow on the side “too much”.  My whole life I have always gone after what I wanted.

I wanted to learn how to draw… so I practiced like crazy.  I wanted to learn how to cook… so I cooked like I was doing so for an army.  I wanted to become an Esthetician… so I got my license.  I wanted to learn how to paint… so I watched Bob Ross and had paint nights before they were ever a thing.  I wanted to learn yoga… so I took classes obsessively.  Crow pose, anyone?

I learned wood burning by following along on YouTube.  I trained to become a Permanent Cosmetics artist with some of the world’s most renowned artists.  I recently asked a friend to be my Japanese tutor.

The list goes on and on.  I’m one of those people who gets asked “What DON’T you do?” a lot.

So, naturally, when I started thinking about writing a blog.  I couldn’t pinpoint what to write about.  Everyone giving you advice on how to start always says you have to find a niche, but there is just too much I’m interested in. I thought I'd have to write about everything.

And I started all of this out that way. Actually, originally, my blog was called "My Champagne Life" and I described it as the "Pinterest of blogs, if you will".

But as things changed and I kept going, I realized I didn't have to write about everything under the sun. I just needed to write about what I am a super nerd about and save some of the other weird, quirky things about me for those wild and out of the box social media posts.

And what am I a complete nerd about, you ask? Skin. I am a skin nerd. I have studied so much about it over the years and am now even in the process of creating my own skincare line.

You might be wondering why my site is called Brows on Main if I am so into skin. Hmmm. Well, I have this saying... "I write my dreams in pencil. Not so they can be erased, but because they can always be revised."

What started out as the "My Champagne Life" blog and "Brows on Main", a small brow & skin studio I opened in the heart of Huntington Beach, has become something much different in the last year as my business has developed and evolved.

It's turned into an online beauty shop and strictly skincare blog, an in person studio, a virtual skincare consultation opportunity that's helped tons of people all over the country, a growing facebook group and an up and coming skincare line!

And I'm super ok with that. Will I change the name at some point? Maybe. We'll see how it goes. I'm truly looking forward to see how God continues to move through this venture.

Cheers, friend!
