What is Moringa Oil?

Moringa oil is found in many skincare products due to its incredible properties and skin benefits, which we will discuss more below. Moringa oil is an all natural ingredient. It comes from the moringa plant found in the Himalayan mountains.

Moringa oil has a whole host of skin benefits. It is hydrating, therapeutic, cleansing, healing, anti-aging, anti-microbial, balancing, and combats breakouts. Plus, it’s great for conditioning dry skin like psoriasis, eczema and dermatitis.

 It's also nutrient dense.

Moringa oil is rich in powerful antioxidants, like Vitamin E and omega fatty acids, which soothe and protect the skin.

Additionally, moringa is high in palmitoleic (an Omega-7 fatty acid that protects against skin damage and encourages new cell development) and linoleic acids (Omega-3s essential building blocks for ceramides, which make up 50% of the skin's barrier). It also contains vitamins A and C as well.

Moringa seeds also boast an impressive 40% fatty acid composition with over 70% being oleic acid, which makes it ideal for skincare as it leaves behind a nice texture on the skin and has a skin calming effect making it suitable for reducing sensitivities and dryness. It also plays a role in naturally preserving the oil, and other antioxidant ingredients, by making it stable and allowing for a longer shelf life.

How does moringa oil benefit the skin?

Moringa oil does a variety of things that are beneficial to the skin.

1. It's hydrating & can be used for cleansing

As stated above, Moringa oil has an incredible 40% fatty acid composition with over 70% being oleic acid making it an excellent choice for supporting the skin barrier, which keeps our bodies from becoming dehydrated  and protects us from environmental threats.

Due to this composition and its ability to support the barrier function, moringa oil is a good moisturizer and beneficial for both dry and sensitive skin, but also makes it a good option for cleansing as well.

Use moringa oil to condition dry lips and other dry skin conditions like dermatitis, psoriasis and eczema.

2. It's healing

Moringa has many emollient properties and good antioxidant activity. It is also high in palmitoleic acid.  These elements make moringa a solid choice for applying to minor cuts, scrapes and burns.

Of course, if you have any kind of wound, cut or burn, please be sure to seek medical advice from your physician.

3. It's anti-aging

Providing that moringa oil is abundantly comprised of incredible fatty acids, it is effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines and contributing to a more youthful appearance overall.

The antioxidant levels in moringa also contribute to anti-aging by protecting the skin from free radicals and other external threats that would cause a break down in the skin.

4. It's anti-microbial, balancing & combats breakouts

Due the high content of Vitamin E, Moringa oil has potent anti-oxidant, anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory properties.

The anti-inflammatory properties can help contribute to clearer skin.

Anti-oxidants are needed when combatting breakouts to ensure the diversity in the skin's flora in the microbiome is balanced. The anti-oxidants also help maintain the health of the skin's barrier, which is important when dealing with breakouts.

5. It can be therapeutic

Due to its long shelf life capabilities, moringa oil often used as a carrier oil for aromatherapy products and can be used for therapeutic purposes.
